Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Knights play to scoreless draw in season lid lifter

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's soccer team played host to Pacific Lutheran University in the season opener for the squads. Both teams had periods of sustained possession, but neither side could tally a goal and settled for a 0-0 draw.

Anna Roethler (Jr./St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) made six saves in notching her ninth career shutout for the Knights.

"Our goal today was to compete and give PLU a game," said Carleton head coach Jocelyn Keller. "They created a lot on the attack, and we were able to hold them… and got lucky, too.

"We have a seasoned group and played with grit today. We trained well, intentionally, and had great preseason scrimmages, so we've been learning a lot and will continue to do so."

The Lutes (0-0-1) have won the Northwest Conference crown three of the last four years and pressed the attack early, finishing with a 19-7 margin in shots. Carleton was able to fend off a 13-1 advantage in corner kicks by staying organized on defense.

Newcomer Cate Patterson (Fy./Racine, Wis./Prairie School) had paced the Knights with two shots.

Carleton will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 1 when the Knights host St. Norbert College at 10:30 a.m.
