NORTHFIELD, Minn. – First-year
Rainey Tilley (South Pasadena, Calif./South Pasadena) assisted on the Knights' first score of the season then tallied the game winner midway through the second half as the Carleton College women's soccer team notched a 2-1 triumph over visiting St. Norbert College.
Carleton (1-0-1) out-shot the visitors by a 15-7 margin and finished with a slight edge in time of possession, 54 percent to 46 percent.
Madeline Marker (Sr./Edina, Minn./Edina) notched the Knights' first goal of the year in the 24th minute.
Julia Kenney (Sr./Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) served a ball into the box from the right corner, and Tilley took a settling touch that allowed Marker to run on and take a 20-yard shot that glanced off the underside of the cross bar.
St. Norbert (0-2-0) found the equalizer early in the second half when Katelyn Kane looped her own long-range shot under the crossbar.
The score remained deadlocked until the 67th minute.
Lily Hurtubise (So./Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron) worked free and sent a low cross into the box. Tilley got a step on her defender and headed home a shot from nine yards out, accounting for the eventual game winner.
Anna Roethler (Jr./St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park) had four saves in goal for Carleton.
