COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – With the Carleton College men's soccer team already locked into the No. 3 seed in the upcoming MIAC Playoffs, the Knights closed the regular season in disappoint fashion, dropping a 3-0 result at Saint John's University.
Saint John's (10-7-0, 6-4-0 MIAC) opened up the scoring with a goal in the third minute when Matt Anderson headed home a corner kick for the game winner. Kagan Foster added an insurance goal in the 43rd minute, and Anderson secured a brace with his second goal, again off a corner kick, in the 68th minute.
Marco da Cunha (So./San Francisco, Calif./San Francisco University) led the offense for Carleton (13-4-1, 6-3-1 MIAC), finishing with four shots, three of which were on target.
Justin Crawmer (Fy./Waukee, Iowa/Waukee) also once again a dangerous threat, putting both of his shots on frame.
The Knights out-shot the Johnnies, 13-11, and held a 7-6 edge in corner kicks but were unable to knock one past Saint John's goalkeeper Payton Spencer, who finished with five saves.
UP NEXT FOR THE KNIGHTS: Carleton will host its rival St. Olaf College in the quarterfinals of the MIAC Playoffs as the Knights stretch their conference-record streak of consecutive conference tournament appearances to 13. With the victory, Saint John's jumped up to the No. 4 seed and earned the right to host Macalester College in the other quarterfinal matchup.
