MINNEAPOLIS--

The Carleton College football team travelled to Minneapolis to take on the Augsburg College Auggies, who never trailed in the game on their way to a 49-17 win over the Knights.

The Auggies (1-3, 1-1 MIAC) started the scoring when Isaiah Malone (Jr./Brooklyn Center, Minn.) returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown. The Auggies quickly followed up the defensive touchdown with two more touchdowns in the first quarter to take a 21-0 lead into the second quarter.

The Knights (0-4, 0-2 MIAC) got on the scoreboard late in the second quarter when Brandt Davis (Sr./La Verne, Calif./Bonita) drilled a 19-yard field to cut the Knights deficit to 21-3 entering halftime.

The Knights responded to two quick second half touchdowns by the Auggies late in the third quarter when Ethan Trujillo (Sr./Brighton, Colo./Brighton) connected with Emmanuel Williams (Fy./Lovelady, Texas./Lovelady) for a 71 yard touchdown pass, the first touchdown of Williams’ career. Trujillo connected with Chris Madden (Sr./Kenosha, Wis./St. Joseph) early in the fourth quarter for a 21 yard touchdown, Trujillo’s second touchdown pass of the game. The Auggies responded with a late fourth quarter touchdown to bring the score to 49-17.

Trujillo led the Knights offensively throwing for 184 yards on 13 of 24 passing and two touchdowns. Dylan Saline (Sr./Anoka, Minn./Champlin Park) and Jake Bechstein (Jr./Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview) each intercepted a pass to help lead the Knights defense.

The Knights look to shake off this loss next week when they take on Hamline at 1:00 p.m. Due to flooding, check the Carleton Athletics website for more information on the location of the game. Knights online will provide live video broadcast and live stats for next week’s game.
