ST. PETER, Minn. -- Amy Roach (Sr./Bethesda, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions as the Carleton College women’s swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the Gustavus Invite. Roach posted winning scores of 360.00 and 351.35, respectively.
The unscored, four-team competition served as the final competition of the season for five squad members, while the rest of the roster used the weekend as a tune up for the upcoming MIAC Championships.
The taper group for this meet included:
Josie Conn (Fy./Saint Cloud, Minn./Cathedral), Madeleine Emmons (Fy./Woodstock, Ill./Woodstock North), Grace Marshall (So./Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads), Anna McGinn (Sr./Minneapolis, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret’s), and Cora Showers (So./Faribault, Minn./Faribault)
“I’m super proud and impressed at how well our tapered group swam throughout the meet,” said Carleton head coach Andy Clark. “The rest of the team really fed off their great energy and the results they produced.
“This meet provided our conference team members a final chance to race a big schedule of events before they head into the final phases of taper. We definitely had some big levels of fatigue, and with this meet having a quick time-line, it was a good challenge for everyone. Super pleased with the positive energy and resilience the teams showed.”
Some Knights used the weekend as an opportunity to swim events outside of their normal meet routine, so Carleton’s top swimming finishes over the two-day meet were a quartet of runner-up results.
On Friday, the Knights took second in both the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 400-yard medley relay. In the former, Caroline Mather (Jr./Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista), Anisa Lester (Sr./Corte Madera, Calif./The Branson School), Eveline Dowling (Jr./Iowa City, Iowa/Iowa City West), and Kyle Fraser-Mines (Fy./Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsborough) clocked a time of 1:41.58. In the latter, Mather joined with Emma Lederer (So./Madison, Wis./West), Ada Meyer (So./Seattle, Wash./Ingraham), and Anna Gergely (Jr./Denver, Colo./Jewish Day School) to reach the wall at 4:10.39.
Saturday saw Carleton’s 200-yard medley relay of Lederer, Meyer, Anna Gergely (Jr./Denver, Colo./Jewish Day School), and Mather post a second-place time of 1:54.23. Gergely was also the runner up in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:28.51.

The Knights host the Northfield Diving Invite on Tuesday, Feb. 6, and will then turn their full attention to the MIAC Championships on Feb. 15-17. That meet will once again be held at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center.
