NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women’s swimming and diving team steamrolled to a dual meet victory over visiting Hamline University on Friday evening. The Knights won 12 of 13 events overall, including multiple individual victories for Ada Meyer (So./Seattle, Wash./Ingraham) and Amy Roach (Sr./Bethesda, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase).
“Fun meet for both squads and a great way for the teams to close our fall term of training and competition,” said Carleton head coach Andy Clark. “Hamline has a program that is on the rise, and we knew that we would have some good opportunities to race. We talked about ending the fall term on a strong note, and we were looking for season best times and competitive results from all members. We had plenty of great moments, and the teams did an outstanding job of generating and sustaining a lot of good enthusiasm and support for each other throughout the meet.”
The evening began with the Knights’ win in the 200-yard medley relay as Emma Lederer (So./Madison, Wis./West), Kate Grossman (Fy./Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township), Anna Gergely (Jr./Denver, Colo./Jewish Day School), and Caroline Mather (Jr./Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) combined on a time of 1:55.36. Carleton never looked back as it won the first eight events of the meet and ended up prevailing by a 194-35 tally.
The next event saw Meyer notch the first of her individual triumphs, cruising to the win in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:27.52. That was good for a 36-second margin of victory. She later added a first-place result in the 200-yard breaststroke after reaching the wall in 2:31.26.
Roach earned the team’s Can of Corn award as she was the top performer on both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards, posting scores of 215.20 and 230.50, respectively.
Six other Knights were individual event winners for Carleton:
• Kyle Fraser-Mines (Fy./Tyngsboro, Mass./Tyngsborough) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.32).
• Mather in the 50-yard freestyle (24.44).
• Grossman in the 200-yard IM (2:21.84).
• Gergely in the 200-yard butterfly (2:27.69).
• Anisa Lester (Sr./Corte Madera, Calif./The Branson School) in the 100-yard freestyle (57.80).
• Morgan Mayer (So./Garret Park, Md./Georgetown Day) in the 500-yard freestyle (5:38.51).
The Knights concluded the session with another relay victory as Lester, Fraser-Mines, Mayer, and Mather clocked a time of 1:42.80 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
