Northfield, Minn. – Host Bethel University rolled up nearly 400 yards of total offense in the first half in beating the Carleton College football team, 41-0.
The Royals (4-4, 3-3 MIAC) scored points on five of their six first-half possessions to take a 27-0 lead at the break. The Knights, meanwhile, managed only 53 yards and four first downs in the first 30 minutes of the game.
John Hollowed (So./Mercer Island, Wash.) and Darren Caspers (Jr./Bemidji, Minn.) passed for 43 yards each, as Hollowed was 5-for-16 with two interceptions and Caspers was 6-for-14 with one interception.
Carleton, which managed only 50 yards rushing, was paced by senior Kevin Hanley's (Chicago/Holy Cross) 16 yards rushing on three carries. Wade Thompson (Jr./Peterson, Minn./Rushford-Peterson) led Carleton with four catches for 26 yards.
Randy Foss (Jr./Hastings, Minn.) and Jerad Phelps (So./Northfield, Minn.) paced the defense with 13 and 12 stops, respectively.
Carleton returns to actiono next week, traveling to St. Peter, Minn., to face Gustavus Adolphus College at 1 p.m.
