Scoring woes continue in shutout loss at SMU

Winona, Minn. -- The Carleton College women's soccer team outshot host St. Mary's 7-5, put five of their seven shots on net yet couldn't come up with a goal in falling 1-0 to the Cardinals.

The Knights (0-3-1, 0-2-0 MIAC) suffered their second consecutive shutout loss in conference play.

Nicky Bloom and Dylan Welch led the Carleton attack, each putting two shots on goal. Emily Muirhead and Jenna Bernhardson split time in net, with Muirhead posting a scoreless first 45 minutes although she didn't have to make any saves while Bernhardson made two saves. The Cardinals scored the game winner on an Abbey D'Aquisto penalty kick in the 81st minute.

Carleton returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 21, hosting Simpson College (Iowa) in a non-conference match at 4 p.m.
