Knights fall to Gusties in tough MIAC opener

St. Peter, Minn. - Carleton put 11 shots on goal, but could not get the ball past Gustavus goalkeeper Tori Boughton, as the Knights fell to Gustavus Adolphus College 2-0 in the MIAC opener for both teams.

Gustavus scored two first half goals en route to defeating the Knights. Callie Christensen scored in the 13th minute and Christy Tupy added a goal in the 38th minute for Gustavus (3-2-0, 1-0-0 MIAC).

Sophomore forward Clare O'Connor (Madison, Wis./Memorial) had four shots on goal to lead the Knights, whose scoring woes continued. Carleton has now put 30 shots on goal in three games this season, but only two of those shots have found the back of the opponent's net.

Emily Muirhead (So./Minneaplos/Southwest) started in goal for Carleton (0-2-1, 0-1-0) and made 2 saves, while Jenna Bernhardson (So./Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) played the second half and made 6 saves.

Carleton will end its season-opening four-game road trip when it travels to Winona, Minn. to face St. Mary's University on Saturday. Match time is 1 p.m. The Knights will return to Northfield for their home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 21 as they host Simpson College. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m., and the game can be heard live on Knights Online.
