Knights lose to Colby to conclude Spring Break trip

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Carleton College women's tennis team concluded its Spring Break trip with a 7-0 loss to Colby College. The match was closer than the score would suggest as Carleton lost one match on via a tiebreaker and two others in super tiebreakers.

The day began in doubles play with Colby (3-5) picking up a 7-5 victory at No. 2 doubles before Carleton's (9-4) duo of Varinn Sood and Algara Dineva notched a 6-4 triumph at the third spot. In between, the Mules prevailed in a tiebreaker atop the lineup 7-6 (7-3) to earn the doubles team point.

In singles action, Kiley Pickens dropped a first-set tiebreaker and lost a close battle at No. 2 singles by a 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 margin.

Giana Mark dropped the first set at the top flight, won the second set, but lost in an extended super tiebreaker by a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (12-10) margin. Dineva came out on the wrong end of a back-and-forth thriller at No. 5 singles, as the first and second sets needed tiebreakers before the super tiebreaker went in the Colby column by a 7-6 (7-5), 6-7 (7-9), 1-0 (10-4) tally.

The Mules won 6-2, 6-3 at both No. 3 and No. 4 singles in addition to a 6-0, 6-0 result at the sixth slot.
