Knights lose close contest at St. Ben's

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – Point guard Addy Huss tallied a game-high 30 points, but the Carleton College women's basketball team lost a nail-biter at College of Saint Benedict, 65-61.

Huss is the lone MIAC player with multiple 30-point games this season. She was 10-of-17 from the field, 3-of-7 from deep, and 7-of-8 at the free throw line in addition to matching Liesl McCallum for team high with eight rebounds. Audrey Whitney chipped in 15 points, while McCallum had 10 points with three steals. Maggie Winesett contributed the other six points and grabbed seven boards while doling out four assists.

Carleton (7-14, 4-10 MIAC) trailed 22-14 with 6:47 remaining in the first half but closed the period on a 20-5 run. Huss and Whitney tallied eight points apiece during that stretch. Carleton shot 75 percent in the second quarter and led 34-27 at the break.

Huss buried a triple to give Carleton a double-digit lead early in the third quarter, but the Bennies (13-8, 9-6 MIAC) countered by shooting 71 percent as they outscored the Knights 25-13 over the rest of the period.

Saint Benedict led by as many as seven during the fourth quarter, but Carleton trimmed the deficit to 63-61 when Huss scored in the lane with 1:51 still to play. Unfortunately, Carleton came up empty on its final four possessions.

Carleton finished the day shooting 44.9 percent overall and 5-of-18 (27.8 percent) from 3-point range. Saint Benedict made 39.3 percent of its shots after going 9-of-30 (30 percent) from long range.

Four Bennies finished in double figures. Lauren Arnold led the way with 15 points and five assist.
