MOORHEAD, Minn. – Three players finished in double figures for the Carleton College women's basketball team, but the Knights were unable to keep pace in the second half and lost 82-42 at No. 24-ranked Concordia College-Moorhead.
The teams exchanged the lead a handful of times early on, with Carleton (7-13, 4-9 MIAC) holding a 7-6 advantage following a layup by
Liesl McCallum at the 6:39 mark of the first quarter. Concordia (17-3, 11-2 MIAC) put together a 14-2 run that was halted when
Addy Huss scored inside as the opening period expired.
The Cobbers tried to pull away in the second stanza, but the Knights pulled back to within 34-29 with 24 seconds remaining before intermission. The Cobbers' Molly Musland buried her fourth 3-pointer of the half on the next possession to give the home side an 8-point advantage heading into the locker room.
The Carleton offense that held its own in the first 20 minutes, did not find the same success coming out of the break. The Knights shot only 21 percent after halftime compared to a 62 percent clip for the Cobbers. Carleton finished at 33 percent shooting for the game, while Concordia shot 49 percent overall.
McClallum totaled 11 points and a team-high six rebounds. Huss collected 11 points, two boards, two steals, a blocked shot, and matched her career best with seven assists.
Audrey Whitney accounted for 10 points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Charlotte Henry drained a pair of first-half triples and matched her career-best with seven points.
Grace Schwarz made a 3-pointer to beat the shock clock in the second quarter for the Knights' other three points.
Musland paced the 15 Concordia players to get on the scoresheet, finishing with 14 points—all in the first half—and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.
