ROCHESTER, Minn. – The No. 34-ranked Carleton College women's tennis team returned to competition for the first time in nearly 19 weeks but showed no rust as the Knights cruised to a 7-0 victory over Saint Mary's on Saturday. Carleton dropped only five total games across the nine matches.
After spending fall term participating in an off-campus study program,
Ryann Witter returned to the lineup and appeared to be in mid-season form.
The Knights (6-0, 4-0 MIAC) swept the three doubles contests by identical 6-0 tallies. Witter and
Giana Marks secured the victory at the top spot,
Gabriela Cilella and
Kat Smiricinschi won at the second spot, with
Algara Dineva and
Clara Mast prevailing at third doubles.
It was more of the same in singles. Marks, Wittter, Dineva, and
Varinn Sood won at No. 1, No. 3, No. 5, and No. 6 singles by matching 6-0, 6-0 scores.
Kiley Pickens added up a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the second slot, while
Peggy Fu completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 result at No. 4 singles.
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton will faced Winona State University, a NCAA Division II program, on Saturday, Feb. 21. That 4:00 p.m. match will be played in Rochester, Minn.
