NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Seven different players scored for the Carleton College women's soccer team as the Knights overpowered Augsburg University by an 8-0 margin.
Carson Cheng scored twice off the bench, and
Hadley Twichell finished with three assists as the Knights clinched a berth in the MIAC Playoffs for the fifth consecutive season.
"Today was the definition of a team win," said Carleton (9-1-1, 7-0-0 MIAC) head coach
Jessica Mueller. "When seven different people score, the team is playing well. I couldn't be more proud of the players who entered the game from the bench. They elevated the level and showed what our program is all about: the team, the team, the team."
This is the 18th time in program history that Carleton scored at least eight goals in a game and the first time doing so since besting Albion College (Mich.) 8-1 on Sept. 1, 2024 (see chart below). This is the most goals Carleton has scored in a conference game since topping Hamline University 9-0 on Sept. 30, 1995.
The Knights wasted little time grabbing the lead as
Lily Shure scored in the sixth minute. She chased down a longball from Twichell, cut back around a defender and delivered a precision shot inside the right post for her third goal of the season.
The 29th minute saw
Zoe Silver notch the fifth goal of her rookie campaign, heading home a free-kick delivery by Twichell.
The Knights added a half-dozen more goals after intermission.
Lola Feuer slammed home a penalty kick in the 52nd minute, and
Isabelle Connolly scored in the 63rd minute off passes from Twichell and Shure.
Kiana Feldis got on the scoreboard in the 67th minute, finishing off a combo of passes from Shure and Twichell.
Cheng found the back of the net in the 69th and 75th minutes. On the former,
Lauren Caldwell's shot was blocked, but the rebound fell to Cheng, who immediately blasted it into the left side of the goal for her first career goal. Cheng found the back of the net again six minutes later, picking up a deflected ball and chipping a shot from the corner of the six-yard box over the keeper and into the net.
The offensive onslaught concluded in the 78th minute. Feldis stole the ball in the midfield and sprung
Disha Roy on the counter attack for a shot from the top of the 18-yard box into the upper right corner.
This was the first time seven different Knights scored in the same game since a 7-0 victory over UW-Platteville on Oct. 7, 2007. Twichell became the second Knight in recorded team history with three assists in a game, joining Liz Arakaki, who achieved the feat against St. Catherine on Oct. 28, 2010.

Carleton travels to Saint Mary's University for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff on Saturday, Oct 17.
