WINONA, Minn. – The Carleton College women's soccer team notched a goal in both halves and posted a 2-0 victory at Saint Mary's University. This was the Knights third consecutive shutout and eighth clean sheet of the campaign.
Carleton (10-1-1 overall, 8-0-0 MIAC), which entered the day ranked No 17 in the NCAA Power Index (NPI), maintained a five-point lead in the MIAC standings with three conference games remaining.
The Knights finished with a 15-5 edge in shot attempts and held possession 63 percent of the time.
Hadley Twichell opened the scoring with a 23rd-minute goal via a free kick. She curled a 30-yard shot around the wall and inside the near post. It was her fourth goal of the season and the 19th of her career, tying Twichell for 11th in Carleton annals (see chart below).
Lola Feurer added an insurance tally in the 47th minute. Her initial shot from distance was blocked, but Feurer collected the rebound and uncorked a 23-yard rocket over the out-stretched arms of the Saint Mary's goalkeeper Kelsy Siercks but under the crossbar.
Carleton 'keeper
Avery Trapp registered four saves in notching her sixth shutout of the season and the 35th clean sheet of her career. Her toughest stop came in the 77th minute, diving to her left to direct a Sofia Serafin attempted wide and keep the Cardinals off the scoreboard.
