NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's basketball team lost an afternoon clash with College of Saint Benedict, 70-57.
Liesl McCallum scored inside to pull Carleton (5-10, 2-6 MIAC) to within 15-12 with two minutes left in the first quarter, but Saint Benedict (11-4, 6-2 MAC) used an 8-0 spurt to take a 23-12 lead after the opening period.
The teams played even during the second quarter, but the Bennies outscored the Knights 17-8 in the third stanza to put the game out of reach as the visitors led by as many as 21 points.
McCallum had 14 points and 10 rebound for her fifth double-double of the campaign.
Audrey Whitney paced the Knights with 18 points, while
Addy Huss stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, nine rebounds, six assists, two steals, and a blocked shot.
Maggie Winesett contributed 10 points with four boards and three steals.
Lauren Arnold poured in a game-high 25 points to lead Saint Benedict. Kira Young (14 points, 13 rebounds) added a double-double, while Alyssa Sadlovsky chipped in 13 points off the bench.
Saint Benedict shot 42.4 percent overall, 33 percent (8-of-24) from beyond the arc, and 75 percent (12-of-16) at the free throw line. Carleton shot 35.3 percent overall, 11 percent (1-of-9) from 3-point range, and 87 percent (20-of-23) at the charity stripe.
