LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Carleton College men's soccer tasted defeat for the first time this season, falling 2-1 at Viterbo University in non-conference action. All three goals came after intermission.

Leo Kugel was forced to make a diving save of a knuckleball shot barely 60 seconds into the contest. That was the lone shot on goal by the V-Hawks (2-0-2) during the first half, while Viterbo goalkeeper Peter Kolenyo had a pair of opening-stanza saves.
The 53rd minute saw the game's first tally. Viterbo hit a long ball over the Carleton defense, and Kugel came well off his line to deflect the ball away from the an on-rushing attacker. Unfortunately for the Knights, the ball caromed to Ronmel Alfaro for a 20-yard shot into the open goal.

Hays Turner's second goal of the season leveled the match in the 64th minute. He dribbled into the box and tucked a left-footed shot inside the far post.
Joaquin Eichorn gave the hosts the lead once again in the 82nd minute. Following turnover near midfield, Sebastian Acosta dribbled into box and slid a pass across the box for a shot into the right side of the net.
Carleton had two near misses in its desperate search for a late equalizer.
Ben Pennell reached back for a waist-high volley in the 87th minute, but his shot deflected off the bottom of the crossbar and stayed out of the net.
Luke Brown's apparent game-tying goal in the 89th minute was waved off late for an offsides.
Kugel and Kolenyo both finished with three saves.
The setback snapped Carleton's 10-match unbeaten streak in the series.
