NEW ULM, Minn. – The Carleton College baseball team concluded its 2025 campaign with a doubleheader split at Martin Luther College. Carleton won game one 13-6 but was beaten in the second game, 11-2.
Game 1 — Carleton 13, Martin Luther 6
The two squads exchanged zeroes in the first inning, but then the scoring began in earnest. To start the second,
Ryan Chang and
Ananth Iyer smacked back-to-back doubles.
Nathan Barnhart singled in Iyer, and Barnhart scored on an
Andrew Sellers' squeeze bunt.
Carleton (12-22, 5-15 MIAC) racked up five more runs in the third. Iyer had a two-run single to right-center,
John Hurtubise slugged a two-RBI double to the gap in left, and
Asher Stolberg's sacrifice fly made it 8-0.
Martin Luther (9-27, 2-19 UMAC) wrested four runs back in the bottom of the third with the help of a leadoff error and a triple from Parker Winghart. Carleton tacked on a pair in the fifth when
Will Schnepf knocked in a run with a chopper to right and Chang beat out a potential double play to allow another runner to score, giving the visitors a 10-4 lead.
Barnhart doubled down the left-field line in the sixth, and
Jordan Appelbaum brought him in with a single after coming off the bench.
Jackson Anderson gave the Martin Luther fans a reason to cheer when he pulled a two-run homer to left in the bottom of the inning to make the score 11-6.
In the seventh, Schnepf was plunked with a pitch, and
Sanjiv Bhogaraju made his first collegiate plate appearance, drawing a six-pitch walk. Barnhart's second double and fourth hit of the game plated Schnepf, and Bhogaraju later sprinted home on a wild pitch to round out the scoring.
The Knights knocked 14 hits as a squad. Stolberg reached in four of five plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with two walks and a sac fly. Barnhart went 4-for-4 with two doubles, three runs, and two RBIs. Iyer was also 2-for-4 with two runs, and three RBI while Chang went 2-for-5 with two runs.
On the mound,
Sam Zacks made the start and threw 3.0 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs.
Jake Stern followed with his sixth consecutive scoreless appearance dating back to March, striking out one.
Tyler Vandersall threw 2.0 innings, allowing two runs and K'ing two.
Jackson Corcoran finished the game with a scoreless inning.
Game 2 —Martin Luther 11, Carleton 2
The hosts began the scoring two runs in the bottom of the first. Carleton responded in the top of the second, as a two-out dropped third strike kept the inning alive for
Carlo Lissuzzo to drop a perfect bunt down the line for a hit. Zacks followed with a double that brought knotted the game at 2-2.
The tide turned in favor Martin Luther as the home team used a series of free passes from Carleton to score one in the third, three in the fourth, and five in the fifth. Martin Luther reliever Aiden Berg threw 5.0 scoreless innings to finish the game.
Lissuzzo went 2-for-3 with a run. Stolberg was 2-for-4. Carleton pitching struggled in game two, but bright spots included
Luke Reisig and
Ethan Chan both coming in with the bases loaded and escaping without allowing a run, both finishing with 0.2 scoreless innings.
