ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Carleton College men's tennis team swept Hamline University, 9-0, on Saturday and secured the No. 2 seed in the upcoming MIAC Playoffs. All eight members of the Carleton (15-3, 7-1 MIAC) roster notched at least one victory on the day.
Jack Rivkin and
Akshay Garapati picked up their 11th win with an 8-4 result atop the doubles lineup, while
Zach Leslie and Baiyun Jing secured their 12th win of the year by an 8-3 margin No. 2 doubles.
Jasper Yang and
Andrew Sretavan teamed up for the first time and earned an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Jing added a 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) triumph atop the singles lineup, and
Aidan Patel notched his team-high 15th singles victory of the campaign, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win at the second spot.
Garapati tallied the 13th victory of his rookie season, going the distance in his No. 3 singles match before putting another tally into the Carleton column via a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) score. Leslie recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win at the fourth slot.
Ezra Bernhard and
Miles Lee added wins at the fifth and sixth spots, respectively, in the lineup. The former notched a convincing 6-1, 6-0 triumph, while the latter added a 6-2, 6-1 result.
Up Next for the Knights
Carleton closes the regular season by hosting Saint John's University for a 2:00 p.m. match on Sunday, April 27. The Knights will have an opening-round bye in the MIAC Playoffs before hosting No. 3 seed Bethel University in the semifinals on Thursday, May 1.
