NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's team swept Saint John's University 9-0 in the regular-season finale on Sunday afternoon.
Ezra Bernhard,
Baiyun Jing,
Aiden Patel, and
Jack Rivkin prevailed in both singles and doubles.
Carleton (16-3, 8-1 MIAC) wasted little time in sweeping doubles, then claimed all six singles matches in straight sets.
Rivkin and
Akshay Garapati notched their 12th victory of the season at No. 1 singles, registering an 8-2 result that was matched by Jing and
Zach Leslie at the second slot. Bernhard and Patel continued their strong debut seasons with an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Andrew Sretavan was first to win his singles match, posting a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the sixth slot to remain undefeated this season.
"Andrew's attack plan in singles is about as secretive as an encrypted group chat on Signal," noted Carleton head coach
Stephan Zweifel, "just do everything possible to get the ball in one more time than your opponent."
Patel followed with a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 singles, notching his team-best 16th victory of the campaign. Rivkin won 6-2, 6-1 at the fifth slot moments later.
Jing then notched a convincing 6-0, 6-1 triumph at No. 1 singles, followed by a 6-2, 6-3 victory for Bernhard at the fourth slot.
Jasper Yang completed the sweep with his 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 2 singles, improving to 14-2 on the year.
