NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Behind another solid outing from starting pitcher
Will Schnepf, the Carleton College baseball team split a doubleheader with visiting Concordia College-Moorhead. The Knights came from behind to win the opener 5-2 but dropped the second game by a 12-1 (7 inn.) margin.
Game 1 — Carleton 5, Concordia 2
Schnepf got off to a rough start but settling in quickly and ended up going the distance, tossing a three-hitter with season-best eight strikeouts. He gave up a leadoff single and walked the next two batters to load the bases with none out. A sacrifice fly brought home one run, but Schnepf induced consecutive groundouts to escape without further damage.
The Cobbers (18-17, 9-9 MIAC) doubled their lead with an unearned run in the third inning.
After going down in order during each of the first three innings, Carleton (9-16, 3-13 MIAC) scored four times in the bottom of the fourth, thanks in part to a pair of Concordia defensive miscues.
Aaron Rice delivered an RBI single to plate
Sam Zacks.
Sam Chutkow added a sacrifice fly. With a runner aboard and two down, Cobber starting pitcher Alex Rudquist issued three consecutive walks to force home a run.
Andrew Sellers' base knock brought home the fourth run.
After Schnepf tossed a 1-2-3 top of the fifth, the Knights tacked on another run in the fifth. Zacks was hit by a pitch for the 33rd time in his career, advanced on a single by
Sam Gossard, and scored via
Ryan Chang's single up the middle.
Schnepf worked two more hitless frames to close out his second consecutive complete game.
Five different players had hits for Carleton, which also drew four walks.

Thomas Horan went 4-for-4 with a triple and four RBI to pace Concordia, while the Knights totaled five hits — all singles — as a team.
