Knights compete U of Minnesota First Chance Meet & Dodd Road Diving Invite

MINNEAPOLIS – On Friday and Saturday, the Carleton College women's swimming & diving team raced at the First Chance Meet hosted by the University of Minnesota. This unscored competition serves as the final competition of the season for 13 members of the roster that are not expected to compete at next week's MIAC Championships. Additionally, most of the likely conference meet entrants also competed in at least one race.
 
While the swimmers competed in Minneapolis, some of the divers on the squad hosted the Dodd Road Diving Invite.
 
The First Chance Meet included entrants from nine teams, including NCAA Division I programs Minnesota and St. Thomas. Regionally-ranked NCAA D-III squads from UW-Eau Claire and UW-La Crosse also took part.
 
Notable top-20 results for the Carleton swimmers:
• 100 butterfly — Grace Hou finished third overall with a season-best time of 1:00.17.
• 100 breaststroke — Bryan Ashland placed 11th overall and fourth among D-III entrants with a new PR of 1:09.99… Stephanie Baranov finished 15th at a personal-best time of 1:10.89.
• 400 medley relay — Gretchen Heintz, Eleanor Hebard, Ava Roh, and Clara Hofmann finished 10th with a time of at 4:23.08.
• 200 freestyle — Jenna Drummond tied for 19th out of 72 racers with a new PR of 2:02.24.
• 100 freestyle — Nora Wooten took 14th place with a new personal-best time of 55.03.
• 200 butterfly —Roh placed 6th overall at personal best of 2:23.13… Lola Taraday finished ninth with a season-best time of 2:24.61.
• 400 freestyle relay — Roh, Hebard, Hofmann, and Taraday took ninth place at 3:53.24.
 
During the diving competition in Northfield, sophomore Hailey Westrup only competed on the 3-meter board and posted a NCAA qualifying six-dive score of 272.60. That included hitting her 205C dive for a score of 50.40.
 
Hope Yu notched a lifetime best of 250.00 points during the 1-meter 11-dive competition.
 
Up Next for the Knights
The MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships will be held Feb. 19-22 at the Jean Freeman Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Minnesota.
