Biography

MAJOR…
Chemistry

POST-CARLETON GOAL(S)…
Go to graduate school for Chemistry/Chemical Biology, earn a PhD, and become a professor.

I CHOSE TO COME TO CARLETON BECAUSE…
The fantastic professors who genuinely care about teaching, the supportive community, the ability to explore many different subjects before settling on a major/career path, and the freedom to pursue multiple passions (extracurricular and academic) at the same time.

WHAT I MOST LIKE ABOUT CARLETON IS…
The community of intelligent, passionate, supportive, and funny people I have found here.

OFF-CAMPUS STUDY PROGRAM(S) PARTICIPATED IN AT CARLETON:
Carleton Spanish Studies in Madrid

MY OFF-CAMPUS STUDY PROGRAM ENHANCED MY EXPERIENCE AS A CARLETON STUDENT-ATHLETE BECAUSE…
While choosing to participate on a Fall Term OCS program unfortunately meant I missed part of my swim season, it gave me the opportunity to immerse myself fully in another culture, learn different subjects than I normally would on campus, see new places, and raise my language ability to a new level. I never would have experienced these things if I hadn't gone on OCS, and I am glad I made the choice to do so.

INTERNSHIP/EXTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES DURING MY TIME AS A CARLETON STUDENT:
Carleton Chemistry Department (Summer 2024), University of Illinois Division of Organic Chemistry/Chemical Biology (Summer 2025, Snyder Scholars Program).
Carleton Chemistry Department: I worked in a biochemistry research lab investigating how bleomycin is hydroxylated during its biosynthesis. UIUC Snyder Scholars Program: I worked in a chemical biology lab conducting research identifying DNAzymes for protein lysine acylation.

MY INTERNSHIP/EXTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES ENHANCED MY EXPERIENCE AS A CARLETON STUDENT-ATHLETE BECAUSE…
The combination of these two research experiences helped inform my interests and career path--while my initial summer at Carleton introduced me to the world of biochemistry research and helped me determine which topics I was passionate about, my time as a Snyder Scholar at Illinois allowed me to experience conducting research at a larger institution and determine that I wanted to pursue graduate study in the discipline. In combination with my coursework and job as a chemistry TA, it was these research opportunities that gave me a sense of what I wanted to do with my career.

HOBBIES:
Spending time outside (especially hiking), reading, listening to music, playing the cello, playing frisbee, yapping.
