Knights move into fourth place at MIAC Championships

MINNEAPOLIS — The Carleton College women's swimming & diving team improved on spot in the standings on Day 3 of the MIAC Championships. The Knights climbed into fourth place after turning in four all-conference or all-conference honorable mention swims. Bryn Ashland had the Knights' top swim, earning All-MIAC status after finishing third in the 100-yard breaststroke.
 
Gustavus Adolphus College widened its advantage and now leads the team competition with 460 points. Macalester College (428 points) and St. Olaf College (370.5) are second and third, while Carleton (321.5) jumped over St. Catherine University (288) and into fourth place.
 
Stephanie Baranov finished seventh in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:44.20. She swam a personal best time of 4:41.75 during the preliminary round. Jenna Drummond placed 11th with a time of 4:49.46, and Aubrey Tran took 15th place and set a new PR after touching the wall at 4:56.57.
 
Four Knights scored points in the 100-yard butterfly. Isabelle Riley set a new PR with her time of 59.78 during the prelims, then took eighth during the finals with a time of 1:00.51. Grace Hou won the 'B' final with a personal-best time of 58.53. Caroline Crampton had a personal-best time of 1:00.04 in the morning, then placed 15th in the finals at 1:00.58. Ella Grogan finished in 16th place at 1:03.84.
 
Chelsea Anderson set a new personal best of 1:58.04 during the preliminary round of the 200-yard freestyle. During the evening session she clocked 1:59.82 to placed eighth overall. Nora Wootten set a PR of 2:00.93 in the prelims and nearly matched that in the finals, placing 13th at 2:00.97. Zoe Morton took 15th placed with a time of 2:01.73.
 
While Ashland earned All-MIAC recognition in the 100 breaststroke, Emma Yao was all-conference honorable mention as the duo finished third and fifth, respectively. Ashland set a new personal best during the morning prelims, then bettered that by finishing at 1:07.54 during the finals. In the evening session, Yao touched the wall only 0.06 behind her teammate. Like Ashland, Daya Tucker set a PR in the prelims then improved upon it to finish at 1:09.20 in the finals, earning 13th place.
 
Hou earned All-MIAC honorable mention thanks to her fourth-place showing in the 100-yard backstroke after turning in a time of 57.35. Lilly Soillis won the 'B' final with a personal-best time of 1:00.01.
 
The final event on Friday yielded another all-conference honorable mention performance. Tucker, Morton, Ashland, and Baranov combined on a time of 1:39.27 in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
 
Up Next for the Knights
The final day of competition will feature the 1650-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 1-meter diving, and the 400-yard freestyle relay. Once again, prelims begin at 10:30 a.m. with finals slated for a 6:30 p.m. start.
