Hailey Westrup wins 3M diving competition to lead Knights on Day 2 of MIAC Championships

MINNEAPOLIS — Day 2 of the MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships saw Hailey Westrup claim the 3-meter diving title while the Carleton College women remained in fifth place.
 
Gustavus Adolphus College leads the team competition with 231 points, with Macalester College (226.5 points), St. Olaf College (210), St. Catherine University (175), and Carleton (173.5) rounding out the top-five spots in the standings.
 
Westrup and Nina Schwab finished 1-2 in the 3-meter diving competition. Schwab led the 22-diver field with a score of 486.55 in the preliminary round, while Westrup totaled 461.65 points. In the finals, their positions flipped. Westrup scored 489.30 points and came-from-behind to earn her first MIAC title. Schwab finished with 471.35 points as the duo is second and third on Carleton's all-time leaderboard.
 
Chelsea Andersen and Stephanie Baranov both garnered All-MIAC honorable mention after finishing tied for fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 500-yard freestyle. Andersen reached the wall with a personal-best time of 5:11.08, while Baranov smashed her previous personal best by more than 11.5 seconds when she posted a time of 5:10.41 during the preliminary round. In the finals, she finished at 5:15.36.
 
Bryn Ashland, Caroline Crampton, and Lily Johnson added to Carleton's team score as they swam in the B final and placed 10th, 12th, and 16th, respectively. Ashland turned in a personal best time of 5:16.41, while Crampton covered the distance in 5:23.91. Johnson set a new PR of 5:29.00 during the prelims before posting a time of 5:31.89 during the finals.
 
Jenna Drummond swam in the 200-yard IM finals, placing 12th with a time of 2:15.17.
 
Daya Tucker set a new personal best after turning in a time of 24.71 during the preliminary round of the 50-yard freestyle. She clocked 24.77 in the finals to place 12th overall. Zoe Morton finished 14th at 25.01.
 
Thursday's competition closed with the 400-yard medley relay. Grace Hou, Emma Yao, Isabelle Riley, and Zoe Morton combined on a time of 3:59.49, good for sixth place.
 
Up Next for the Knights
Friday's event list includes the 400-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, and the 200-yard freestyle relay. Prelims begin at 10:30 a.m. with finals slated for a 6:30 p.m. start.
