Addy Huss tallied a game-high 23 points—her fourth consecutive game of at least 20 points—but the Carleton College women's basketball team dropped its conference opener 64-48 at Saint Mary's University.
Carleton (3-3, 0-1 MIAC) out-shot the Cardinals (6-1, 1-0 MIAC) both overall (40.0 percent to 35.6 percent) and from 3-point range (16.7 percent vs. 14.3 percent), but Saint Mary's height advantage resulted in 23 offensive rebounds. The hosts turned those extra possession into 19 critical points.
Audrey Whitney drained a 3-pointer on Carleton's first possession of the game, but Saint Mary's answered with an 16-2 run aided by nine second-chance points. The Cardinals played from in front the remainder of the contest.
Huss finished the game 11-of-15 from the field, including a make on her lone 3-point attempt. She added a team-best seven rebounds with two assists and a steal. Whitney accounted for nine points, six boards, and two assists.
Liesel McCallum contributed 10 points, four rebounds, four blocks, and a steal.
Brianna Nusbaum scored 21 points to pace Saint Mary's, which benefited from a career-best 17-point showing by Ayla Olson.
