DULUTH, Minn. – The Carleton College women's basketball team lost 85-56 to the College of St. Scholastica. The Saints scorched the nets, hitting 17 threes.
St. Scholastica (6-1, 2-0 MIAC) shot 45.5 percent from the field, and hit 17-of-35 (48.6 percent) of its 3-point attempts, the most single-game triples by any MIAC squad since at least the 2013-14 season. Carleton (3-4, 0-2 MIAC) hit 44.2 percent of its tries overall, and was 1-for-9 from deep (11.1 percent). They were also a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line. The Knights won the rebound battle, 34-32.
The Saints began the contest on a 9-2 run over the first four minutes. The hosts then got hot from outside near the end of the first quarter, with Jackie Johnson and Evie Schmitz combining to hit three straight triples to open up a 24-12 lead after one quarter.
Sophomores starred in the second quarter, with
Addy Huss posting 11 for Carleton and Ava Haus scoring 14 for St. Scholastica. Haus' outburst helped the Saints to a 47-33 halftime lead.
St. Scholastica maintained its wire-to-wire lead with a strong second half, outscoring the Knights in the third and fourth quarters, canning eight more 3-pointers in the second half.
Huss scored 19 points on 8-for-15 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds. Huss has shot above 50 percent from the field in her last four games.
Audrey Whitney posted 14 points, and
Liesl McCallum notched 13 points.
Maggie Winesett scored eight and tallied a game-high nine rebounds.
Haus led the game with 23 points for the Saints. Kloey Lind (15 points, nine rebounds), Johnson, Schmitz, and Savannah Schlueter (12 points each) all registered double figures.
