Knights outraced by Martin Luther

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's basketball team jousted with the Martin Luther College Knights on Friday, falling 72-51.

Addy Huss and Audrey Whitney tallied 15 points apiece, but it was not enough for Carleton (4-5, 1-2 MIAC) to overcome free-shooting Martin Luther (7-4). Huss put together her fourth double-double of the season by adding 10 rebounds, two steals, two blocks, and two assists. Whitney collected seven rebounds.

The two squads were square at seven apiece after three minutes of trading buckets, but the UMAC's leading scorer, Mya Morris, sparked a 14-4 Martin Luther burst with a pair of 3-pointers. That gave the visitors a 21-11 edge at the 3:06 mark, and the stanza concluded with a 22-14 scoreline.

A hot start to the second gave Martin Luther a 30-16 lead, but Carleton responded with an 8-0 run over six minutes. Huss scored six of the points and cut the guests' advantage to 30-24 with 2:05 remaining in the half with a reverse layup. The New Ulm squad struck back, outscoring Carleton 8-2 over those final two minutes and entering halftime up 38-26.

Martin Luther extended its lead throughout the third quarter, out-scoring Carleton 20-9 in the period with 11 of the points coming from Morris. Carleton won the fourth quarter, 16-14, but it was not enough to erase the deficit.

Morris scored 29 points for Martin Luther, hitting a program-record eight 3-pointers on just 15 attempts. Lydia Feidt had an efficient 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting, going 4-for-5 from beyond the arc with six steals. Wilhelmina Wenz narrowly missed a double-double, posting nine points and 12 rebounds.

Carleton shot 34.4 percent overall but only connected on 20.0 percent of its 3-point attempts (4-for-20) and 50.0 percent of its free throws (5-for-10). Martin Luther was 44.3 percent from the field, and 43.8 percent (14-for-32) from outside compared to just 3.64 percent (4-of-11) at the charity stripe. The visitors out-rebounded Carleton 44-34.

Up Next for the Knights
Carleton concludes the 2025 calendar year with a New Year's Eve tilt at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. The non-conference contest is set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
