SUPERIOR, Wisc. – The Carleton College women's basketball team suffered a 70-38 loss at the University of Wisconsin-Superior in the Knights' final non-conference contest.
The Yellowjackets (3-9) got off to a 7-2 start, but Carleton (4-6) responded in kind and tied the game at nine when
Liesl McCallum converted a three-point play with 3:56 left in the first quarter. UW-Superior then embarked on a 14-2 run over a nine-minute stretch, opening up an 23-11 advantage. Carleton could not cut into the lead before the break, and trailed 33-18 at halftime.
The deep Yellowjackets roster kept the pressure on in the third quarter, outscoring the Knights to gain a 56-28 lead. That lead held up in the fourth quarter, allowing UW-Superior to capture the season series between the teams.
McCallum scored 10 points, doled out four assists, and registered two blocks.
Addy Huss put together nine rebounds and four steals on the defensive end.
MyKenzie Leccia scored 14 points for Superior. Charlotte Ferstl carded a 10-point, 14-rebound double-double. Hope Carlson posted 11 points off the bench.
Carleton shot 31.3 percent from the field, 2-for-11 (18.2 percent) from beyond the arc, and 6-for-13 (46.2 percent) at the free throw line. UW-Superior hit 41.5 percent of its shots, 8-of-22 from long range (36.4 percent), and 8-of-11 (72.7 percent) free throws. The home team out-rebounded Carleton, 45-24.
