NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Behind double-doubles by
Addy Huss and
Liesl McCallum, the Carleton College women's basketball team improved to 2-1 on the season thanks to a 61-51 victory over University of Northwestern-St. Paul.
Huss tallied 15 of her game-high 22 points in the second half and stuffed the stat sheet with 12 rebounds, five assists, three blocks, and two steals. McCallum turned in a 16-point performance and grabbed 14 boards to go along with five blocks.
With the score knotted 18-18 midway through the second quarter, Carleton used an 8-0 burst and would not trail again in the contest. The Knights owned a 30-22 edge at intermission, but Northwestern started the second half with an 11-6 spurt to make it a one-possession game. Carleton answered with back-to-back fast break buckets by
Maggie Winesett and Huss. The Knights eventually widened the lead to as many as 12 points during the second half.
Winesett finished the game with eight points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Audrey Whitney chipped in with seven points, seven boards, three assists, and a steal.
Ella Frazier finished with 12 points to pace the Eagles, who were limited to 27.3 percent shooting overall and a 7-of-30 (23.3 percent) performance from beyond the arc. Carleton concluded the contest shooting 33.3 percent and was 3-of-12 from long range.
