EDINA, Minn. — The Carleton College women's golf team completed a wire-to-wire victory at the 2025 MIAC Championships on Monday, capturing the program's 10th conference title in record-setting fashion at Braemar Golf Course.
The Knights closed with a final-round 296 (+8) to finish with a three-day total of 886 (+22) — the lowest 54-hole team score in MIAC Championship history — and 32 shots ahead of runner-up Macalester (918). The new record total shatters the previous low team score by an astonishing 18 strokes (904), a mark that was held by both Carleton (2018) and St. Catherine (2024).Â
Senior star Carter Sichol capped a historic weekend with a one-over-par 73 to finish at 211 (–5), winning medalist honors by seven strokes. It is her second individual conference title, the other coming in as a sophomore in 20223. Her performance marked the first time a Carleton golfer has finished under par at the MIAC Championships and included back-to-back 69s to open the event. Sichol now stands alone as the lowest three-round total in MIAC history.Â
Junior Mindy Zhai surged on the final day with a tournament-best two-under 70, vaulting into third place overall with a three-round total of 224 (+8). The top-five finish is Zhai's highest of her career in the Maize and Blue. Her final round got off to a roaring start, making the turn at four-under par following an eagle and a pair of birdies. She went on to card two more birdies in what was a stellar final round. Â
First-year Kate Yi tied for fourth in her debut at the MIAC Championships. The Valencia, Calif., native came in at 225 (+9) after rounds of 71, 74, and 80. Yi was the lone first-year player to finish in the top-five
Senior Cynthia Lu posted a closing 76 (+4) to place seventh at 233 (+17), while fellow senior Sarah Zheng followed closely with a 77 (+5) to finish eighth at 234 (+18), giving Carleton all five scorers inside the top eight. It is the first time any team in the MIAC has achieved that feat since the 2018 Carleton squad placed all of its players inside the top five.Â
With their individual finishes, Sichol, Zhai, Yi, Lu, and Zheng each earn MIAC All-Conference honors. Sichol leads the way with her fourth straight All-Conference finish. Zheng follows with her third consecutive honor, and Lu collects her third All-MIAC standing, while Zhai takes her second and Yi debuts on the list.
With the championship finish, the Knights punch their ticket to the NCAA Championships in the spring, held May 19-22 at Desert Willow Golf Resort in Palm Desert, California.Â
