NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's tennis team opened a busy weekend with a 7-0 victory over Hamline University. This was the first of three matches in as many days for the Knights.
Carleton (3-0, 2-0 MIAC) swept doubles for the first team point of the day. First-years
Giana Marks and
Gabriela Cilella picked up a 6-2 triumph at No. 1 doubles, while
Algara Dineva and
Kat Smiricinschi breezed to a 6-0 result at the second slot.
Kiley Pickens and
Clara Mast notched a 6-4 win at the third spot.
The Knights captured all six singles matches in straight sets, five of them in convincing fashion as they dropped a total of nine games in those five matches.
Marks shutout her opponent at the top spot in the lineup, posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Pickens won 6-2, 6-1 at the second slot, with
Peggy Fu prevailing 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Cilella was the first to finish in singles, registering a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 5 singles, while Smiricinschi contributed a 6-1, 6-2 result at the sixth slot.
The tightest match of the day came at No. 4 singles, where Dineva cruised to a 6-2 win in the opening set, then had to win a tiebreaker to capture the second set 7-6 (7-3).

Carleton hosts UW-Superior for a scheduled 2:00 p.m. match on Saturday, Oct. 4. The Knights then wrap up the fall portion of their schedule with a 1:00 p.m. contest against College of St. Scholastica on Sunday, Oct 5.
