Knights cap fall schedule with seventh place finish at Historic Triangle Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The Carleton women's golf team closed out a strong week against an elite national field by finishing seventh overall at the Historic Triangle Invitational on Tuesday at Kingsmill Resort.

The Knights posted a final round 310 (+22) to tally a team total of 623 (+47) for the week, improving their position on the final day, while holding off Sewanee and Huntingdon in a tightly-packed middle of the leaderboard. The event's 14-team field included eight nationally-ranked programs — incluidng the top three teams in the nation — and four other squads that received votes in the latest WGCA top-25 poll.

Senior Carter Sichol delivered Carleton's round of the day — and one of the best in the field — firing a composed one-over-par 73, good for a T-6 individual finish at +5 for the week.  Sichol's round featured a strong start.  Teeing off on the 10th hole, the Winnetka, Ill., native captured a one-under 34 on her opening nine after a pair of birdies on the par-four 12th and 18th.

Senior Natalie Tatar vaulted up the board with a final-round 76 (+4) to finish at +14 overall.  A part of the shotgun start, Tatar began her round on the par-four 12th and paced the Knights early with an even-par 35 on the back nine that included a string of three consecutive birdies on the 15th, 16th, and 17th.

Senior Sarah Zheng, Carleton's day-one leader, carded an 80 (+8) and finished T-26 at +10.  Zheng finished the day with 14 pars, but could not get any birdies to fall in her final round.  Senior Cynthia Lu followed with an 81 (+9) on Tuesday to finish tied for 60th at +22 overall. Sophomore Anna Lee rounded out the Carleton lineup with an 82 (+10) to finish tied for 58th at +19.

The tournament was the final of Carleton's fall schedule.  The Knights will spend the coming months preparing for the spring schedule, which will kick off in late March.
