NORTHFIELD, Minn. – On a rainy afternoon, the No. 23-ranked Carleton College women's soccer team scored a trio of second half goals and extended its win streak to seven games with a 3-0 shutout of the College of Saint Benedict.
The Knights (10-1-2, 6-0- MIAC) finished with a 25-7 edge in total shots, including a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal. The teams went into intermission scoreless after Carleton had a 33rd minute goal waved off due to offsides.
The game's opening score came in the 56th minute. After a Carleton corner kick, the Bennies (5-9-0, 3-4-0 MIAC) headed the ball twice but were unable to clear the ball, and a third header, this one by
Hadley Twichell, sailed over Saint Benedict goalkeeper Claire McGrath and into the goal. It was Twichell's first tally of the season and the 15th of her career, tying her for 16th in program history (see chart below).
Carleton scored only two minutes later following another corner kick. This time, it was
Louisa Symkowick, who cleaned up a messy situation in front of the Bennies' goal. Symkowick's first close-range shot was stopped by McGrath as was a rebound attempt by
Lola Feurer. But the ball remained uncontrolled inside the six-yard box, and Symkowick punched it across for her first career goal.
Saint Benedict tried to open play up and was more deliberate in going on the counterattack to test Carleton keeper
Avery Trapp, but the Knights defense held and extended its shutout streak to 372 minutes. Trapp finished the contest with three saves in posting her 22nd career shutout, third-most in program history (see chart below).
Isabella Gill capped the scoring with her 25-yard rocket over the outstretched arms of McGrath and under the crossbar. It was Gill's second career tally and first of the 2025 campaign.
With the victory, the Knights — who are currently ranked No. 8 in the NCAA Power Index (NPI) — reached double-digit victories for the fourth consecutive season. Since the start of the 2022 campaign, Carleton has gone 53-8-14 (.800) overall and 31-0-9 (.888) in MIAC regular-season contests.
