NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 21-ranked Carleton College men's soccer team stayed unbeaten on the season after posting a 3-0 victory over Viterbo University on Tuesday afternoon.
Danny Ortiz's first career goal was the game winner.
Both teams attempted 13 shots in the contest, with Carleton (2-0-1) goalkeeper
Daniel Linder notching eight saves — six of them under tough conditions in the second half — in recording his 16th career clean sheet. The Knights finished with a 7-4 edge in corner kicks, while Viterbo (0-3) committed 16 of the game's 20 fouls and received four yellow cards along with two red cards.
Ortiz opened the scoring in the 11th minute. After a turnover, the ball was headed towards
Blake Jones, who slid and tapped the ball over to Ortiz for a rocket from the top of the 18-yard box and into the left side of the net.
The contest remained close until the 70th minute.
Hays Turner intercepted a long ball at midfield and dribbled to the top of the box where he slotted a pass over to an unmarked
Owen Flanagan. The senior midfielder took a settling touch before tucking a shot inside the left post for his 15th career goal.
Jones sealed the victory in the 79th minute, tallying his second goal of the season. He picked off a pass dribbled around three Viterbo defenders before sliding a shot under the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
