Knights rally for 5-2 win at Luther

DECORAH, Iowa – The Carleton College women's tennis team notched a 5-2 victory over hosts Luther College in a matchup of regional foes.

This was Carleton's first exposure to the one-year pilot of the 7-point dual match scoring format that is mandatory for all non-conference Division III dual matches as well as the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships. The team that wins two of the three doubles matches receives one point. Each singles match is worth one point. Four or more points are required to win the dual match. Individual conferences are permitted to continue using the 9-point format during conference play, an option that the MIAC will continue to use this season.

Earlier in the day Luther (7-3, 7-0 ARC) earned at least a share of the American Rivers Conference crown, but the Knights were not going to let the Norse celebrate for long.

Luther collected the doubles point by claiming a 7-6 (7-1) victory at the second slot and a 6-4 triumph at the third slot. Carleton's top duo, Amelia Asfaw and Mariam Nechiporuk, won atop the lineup by a convincing 6-0 margin.

Upon moving to singles, the Knights secured five of the six solo contests.

Ryann Witter got the Knights on the board as she cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 5 singles.

Nechiporuk bested Montserrat Ramirez 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Asfaw prevailed over Lena Lichau by the same score in their No. 1 singles clash.

After Luther pulled to within 3-2 with a win at the third slot, Kiley Pickens clinched the match for Carleton when she defeated Riley O'Donnell 6-1, 7-5 at No. 4 singles. Zoe Rose dropped the opening set but came back to win 1-6, 7-5, 10-6 at No. 6 singles.

Up Next for the Knights
The road trip continues as Carleton heads to Concordia College-Moorhead for a 2:00 p.m. match on Sunday, Sept. 29.
