NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's soccer team controlled play throughout the match and was rewarded with a 6-0 victory over visiting Bethel University.
Chloe Simanek and
Isabella Gill notched their first collegiate goals in the win.
The Knights (8-1-1, 3-0-0 MIAC) finished with a 25-2 advantage in shot attempts and took all 11 corner kicks in the contest. The outcome coupled with results around the conference moved Carleton into sole possession of first place in the MIAC standings.
Dylan Baker got the scoring started in the fifth minute, cleaning up a loose ball inside the six-yard box. It was her fourth tally of the season.
Ashlyn Haigh doubled the advantage in the 26th minute when she notched her first score of the season and the 10
th of her career, knocking home a corner kick delivery from
Saheli Patel.
Loren Arzayus got creative to find the back of the net moments before intermission. She collected a deflected cross—and with the defense closing the angle—shot back across her body. between two defenders, and past the outstretched arm of the goalkeeper.
The 51st minute saw Simanek run onto the end of a
Sam Gotch service, with the former one-touching a close-range left-footed shot into the back of the goal.
Kiana Feldis blasted home an insurance goal in the 72st minute.
Isabelle Connolly played a through ball that Feldis was able to collect before firing a low-angle screamer into the opposite upper corner.
Gill completed the scoring in the 85th minute. She collected a deflection and immediately fired a nine-yard shot that bounced off the inside of the left post and into the net.
Avery Trapp and
Sophia Lehman each spent a stanza in goal for Carleton, which recorded its fifth clean sheet of the season.
Carleton improved to 20-0-5 over its last 25 MIAC regular-season matches.
