ST. PETER, Minn. –
Loren Arzayus took advantage of a loose ball in front of the goal to lift the Carleton College women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at Gustavus Adolphus College in the conference opener for both sides.
Carleton (6-0-1, 1-0-0 MIAC) held the advantage in time of possession 56-to-44 percent and spent the majority of the match in its attacking half. The Knights were finally rewarded in the 76th minute.
Piper Dean chased down a corner kick that sailed through the box and played the ball back to
Sam Gotch, who served it toward the six-yard box.
The Golden Gusties' goalkeeper Katelyn Olson got one mitt on the cross, but that only served to knock the ball down among a scrum of players in front of the Gustavus' (3-1-2, 0-1-0 MIAC) goal. Arzayus pounced and delivered her second goal of the season.
The Knights were credited with 28 shots in the contest compared to 15 for the hosts, including an 11-6 edge in shots on goal.
Carleton goalie
Avery Trapp made six saves in notching her third shutout of the year.
