ST. PETER, Minn. – In a matchup between the last two unbeaten teams in the MIAC, the Carleton College men's soccer team came up short, falling 1-0 at No. 6-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College in the conference opener for squads.
Both of these programs earned at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament in 2023 and entered the day with a combined 8-0-4 ledger.
Gustavus (6-0-1, 1-0-0 MIAC) tallied the game's lone goal in the 35th minute. Owen Johnson picked up a loose ball in the attacking third and threaded a pass to Leo Runestad for his first career goal.
Carleton's (3-1-3, 0-1-0 MIAC) best scoring chance came in the 16th minute as
Owen Flanagan collected a long pass from
Hays Turner and unleashed a hard shot that Gustavus goalkeeper Egan Bedwell knocked down but could not control. The Knights were unable to pounce on the loose ball, however, and the Gusties eventually posted their third consecutive shutout.
Daniel Linder tied his season high with eight saves in the contest.
