EDINA, Minn. –
Sarah Zheng carded an opening round 75 to lead the No. 16-ranked Carleton College women's golf team on the first day of play at the St. Kate's Fall Invite.
The Knights posted a team score of 305 on Saturday, 11 strokes behind tournament host and No. 9-ranked St. Catherine University. The Wildcats' "B" team is next at 306, one shot ahead of Macalester College. The College of Saint Benedict rounds out the top-5 at the 11-team event with an opening-round score of 312.
Saturday saw Zheng collect a team-high four birdies, tied for the second-highest figure in the 58-player field.
Cynthia Lu is tied with
Natalie Tatar and three others for eighth place as each posted a first-round score of 76 (+4). Lu had three birdies on Saturday and played her final 11 holes at 1-over par, while Tatar turned in her best round of the fall season.
Mindy Zhai got off to a good start, playing the first 10 holes at only 1-over par. She finished Saturday's action with a 78 (+6) to round out the Knights' scoring.
Olivia Siebert, playing as an individual entrant, finished with birdies on two of her final four holes and carded a 797 on Saturday, one shot ahead of
Anna Lee.
The six Knights played the par 5s at a combined 1-under par.

Carleton concludes the tournament on Sunday, Sept. 15. The Knights will tee off at Eagle Valley Golf Club in Woodbury, Minn., at 1:00 p.m.
