NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College women's soccer team won its home opener 3-1 over Wartburg College thanks to goals by
Kathryn Kresse,
Dylan Baker, and
Anna Borkowski.
Kresse has scored in all four matches this season and now has a MIAC-high six goals on the year. In the 20th minute, she was sprung for a breakaway thanks to a long pass by
Lauren Caldwell. Kresse
slid her shot under the hard-charging Wartburg (2-3-0) goalkeeper.
Carleton (4-0-0) doubled its lead in the 29th minute.
Dylan Baker collected a pass into the box, took a touch around a defender, and fired into the right side for her second career game-winner.
Carleton out-shot the visitors 7-0 in the first half, but Wartburg sliced the deficit in half shortly after intermission. Nikayla Youngblut served a cross from the right wing, and Natalie Thiesfeld headed a shot into the top of the Carleton goal.
Carleton sealed the victory in the 81st minute. Kresse collected a throw in, dribbled to the edge of the 18-yard box, and sent a pass in front so Borkowski could re-direct it home for her first goal of the season.
