ALBION, Mich. – The Carleton College women's soccer team cruised to an 8-1 victory at Albion College in the middle match of the Knights' three-game Michigan road trip.
Kathryn Kresse got the Knights rolling early, posting her first career hat trick, with all three goals coming in the first 17 minutes of the contest.
The eight goals tied for the 10th-most Carleton (2-0-0) has tallied in program history and marked the Knights' highest scoring output since posting an 8-0 triumph over Marian College on Sept. 13, 2003.
Kresse opened the scoring in the ninth minute, as she picked up a deflected clearance attempt and fired an 11-yard shot into the right side of the goal. The advantage doubled in the 12th minute after
Dylan Baker stole the ball, carried it into the box on the right side, and slid a pass in front that Kresse tapped past Albion (0-2-0) goal keeper Micaela Hohlbein.
The Knights kept up the offensive pressure and were rewarded again in the 17th minute.
Ashlyn Haigh slid a pass through the Britons' backline, allowing Kresse to run on for a 15-yard shot off the keeper's fingertips and into the goal to complete her hat trick.
Hadley Twichell capped the first-half scoring in the 28th minute with a one-timer set up by Kresse. Carleton played a long ball up the right wing, and Kresse delivered a cross to the top of the six-yard box, allowing Twichell — who was limited to three games last season due to injury — to slide home her first goal of the year and 10th of her career.
Baker got in on the fun in the 53rd minute, running onto a loose ball in the box and firing a low-angle shot off the inside of the far post and into the net for her fourth career goal.
Piper Dean added her 11th career goal in the 62nd minute.
Loren Arzayus laid the ball off for Dean, who tucked a 23-yard shot under the crossbar.
In the 76th minute, Albion tallied the first goal allowed by the Carleton defense this season, but the Knights responded two minutes later when Arzayus converted a penalty kick for her fourth career goal.
Isabelle Connolly concluded the scoring in the 89
th minute, when her first collegiate shot attempt found the back of the net.
Twenty-six Carleton players notched at least 20 minutes of action, with all 15 reserves seeing more field time than two starters. The Knights finished with a 24-3 edge in shot attempts, 16-2 in shots on goal, and an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Carleton has a quick turnaround and travels to Hope College for a 1:00 p.m. EDT / 12:00 p.m. CDT kickoff on Monday, Sept. 2.
