NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 21-ranked Carleton College men's soccer team settled for a scoreless draw against visiting Augustana College (Ill.) on Sunday afternoon at Bell Field.
The Knights (1-0-1) controlled the flow of the match as they held possession of the ball for 67 percent of the contest and finished with a 15-4 edge in shot attempts and an 8-1 edge in shots on goal. Carleton also owned a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Vikings' (0-1-1) best chance came in the 56th minute when the center official obstructed a Carleton player leading to a turnover in the midfield and a 30-yard attempted clanged off the woodwork.
Carleton centerback
Josh Zebrack nearly broke the deadlock with back-to-back attempts in the 65th minute. With the Augustana goalkeeper Ignacio Alberola off his line following a corner kick, Zebrack headed the ball toward the goal mouth only to have the ball headed away by a defender on the line. Zebrack's bicycle kick attempt on the rebound was snared out of the air by Alberola.
Augustana committed 11 fouls compared to six for the hosts with the visitors accumulating five yellow cards and a 90th-minute red card.
The Knights have now allowed one goal or less in their last 27 matches dating back to Oct. 17, 2022. Carleton backup goalie
Leo Kugel notched one save in registering his third career shutout.
