NORTHFIELD, Minn. -- The Carleton College softball team dropped both games of its doubleheader against cross-town rival St. Olaf College, with scores of 11-3 (5 inn.) and 10-7. The Knights nearly came back from a five-run deficit in game two, but ultimately fell twice to the Oles despite a four-hit day for senior outfielder

Game 1
The Knights (12-16, 3-11 MIAC) fell behind early in game one and could not battle back, as St. Olaf (20-12, 11-5 MIAC) scored at least one run in each of the first four innings, including a six-run opening frame. The Oles picked up 15 hits in the five-inning contest.

Esme Song cashed in a run for the Knights in the second inning with a RBI grounder, plating
Reagan Willis.
Willis was the owner of the other two RBI for the Knights with a two-run single to right in the fifth inning.

Rachel Block took the loss as she was charged with six runs in the first inning.
Sydney Trentman pitched the other four frames, conceding five earned runs.

Jenna Peschel earned the win for the Oles, allowing just one unearned run in four innings on three hits and a walk, as well as three strikeouts.

Game 2
St. Olaf put a five spot on the scoreboard in the second inning, highlighted by Shreya Ashok's three-run, two-out triple.

The Knights responded with four runs in the fourth inning. A single by
Grace Colburn and a double from Moses preceded
Livi Peters' RBI grounder.
Alissa Maquar followed with run-scoring single to left field. After a walk loaded the bases, a St. Olaf error allowed two more runs to score, as the home team Knights now trailed 5-4.

Two more Oles errors in the fifth made way for the to tie the game at 5-5.

St. Olaf regained the lead as four singles led to three tallies in the top of the sixth inning.
Adriana Wiggins' two-run singles in the home half of the stanza made it interesting, as the scoreboard now read 8-7 in favor of the visitors.

The Oles put together a two-out rally for a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh, sealing the victory.

Genevieve Lyon got the starting nod and received a no decision despite allowing five runs on a hit, a walk, and three hit batters over her 1.1-inning outing. Block pitched the remaining 5.2 frames, yielding five runs in taking the loss.

Jaelyn Orth notched the win as she tossed 3.2 innings of relief, collecting four strikeouts while permitting three runs.

Carleton closes the home portion of the schedule by hosting the College of Saint Benedict for a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 24. Game one is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. The Knights are slated to close the regular season with seven consecutive road games.
