Knights pick up road win at Augsburg, stay unbeaten in MIAC

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Carleton College women's soccer team bested the Augsburg University Auggies on the road Tuesday evening, winning 3-0 to stay undefeated in conference play.

Carleton (10-1-2, 5-0-1 MIAC) now sits alone atop the MIAC table with 16 standings points. The Knights are unbeaten over their last 28 MIAC contests, going 22-0-6 in the spell.

The Knights continue to get contributions from players up and down the roster. Tonight's three goalscorers had a combined total of one goal between them this season entering the contest.

The Knights grabbed the lead in the seventh minute of this one. Taking a free kick 40 yards out, Hadley Twichell hummed a shot at the bottom corner. Augsburg (5-3-4, 1-1-4 MIAC) goalkeeper Tess Enlow made the initial save, but the rebound leaked out enough for Thea Traw to dart in and poke the ball over the line for her first of the season. Carleton has now scored first in 11 of 13 games and is undefeated (10-0-1) when doing so.

The second-best first-half chance for Carleton came when the Knights swung in a cross to a late-arriving Ashlyn Haigh, who directed a sharp header down, but Enlow made the stop.

In the second half, a Haigh header worked out a little better, as the Knights found the midfielder on a 57th minute corner kick. She headed the ball towards the top corner. The goalie got a glove up, directing the try off the bar, but the ball fell at the back post, and Disha Roy bundled it in for her first career goal.

Haigh finally got hers in the 65th minute, when Zaraya Jordan laid off a ball at the top of the box to the junior midfielder, who picked out the top corner from 24 yards for her second score of the season.

The Knights finished out the game comfortably, out-shooting the Auggies in the end 21-7, with an 8-2 edge in shots on goal and a 5-1 advantage in corners.

Haigh finished with a goal, an assist, and a team-high four shots. Avery Trapp stopped two shots for her fifth solo clean sheet and the team's seventh overall.

Up Next for the Knights
Carleton will face a tough MIAC foe, traveling to regionally ranked St. Catherine University (7-2-2, 4-0-1 MIAC) for a Saturday matinee. These squads have met in the last two MIAC Championships. Kickoff at the Wildcats' Outdoor Fields and Courts is at 1:00 P.M.
