ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Carleton College opened its two-day road trip with a commanding 3-0 victory at Augustana College. The Knights dominated possession throughout the contest, building a 26-4 edge in shots and an 8-1 margin in corner kicks.
The Knights (2-0-0) wasted little time putting the first mark on the scoreboard. In the sixth minute,
Ben Pennell lofted a pass over the Augustana backline, finding
Owen Flanagan on a run for a 10-yard one-touch shot inside the far post. It was the junior midfielder's 10th career goal.
In the 40th minute,
Justin Crawmer attacked the defense from the left wing and was taken down in the box.
Trevor Jones converted the ensuing penalty kick, his third goal of the campaign to tie his career high. He is also tied for tops among MIAC players on the young season.
The day's final tally came in the 72nd minute. Crawmer again carried the ball up the left wing and after working around the Viking defense, he sent a low cross into the box for a re-direct by
Jeremiah Lanzillo.
Thanks to solid play by the Carleton defense, goalkeeper
Daniel Linder registered his fourth career shutout. Augustana (0-2-0) did not register a shot until the 64th minute.
