MOORHEAD, Minn. – Second-half goals by
Kathryn Kresse and
Piper Dean earned the Carleton College women's soccer team a 2-0 road triumph over Concordia College-Moorhead.
The Knights (5-1-0, 2-0-0 MIAC) extended their win streak to three games, while notching their fourth shutout of the campaign. Concordia (1-3-1, 0-1-0 MIAC) nearly netted a last-second goal of its own, but the shot was ruled to have not crossed the goal line before time expired.
Carleton held a 13-9 edge in shots, with each side putting seven attempts on goal. The visitors took six of the seven corner kicks in the contest.
Less than two minutes into the second half,
Cate Patterson slotted a pass through the Concordia defense, allowing Kresse to run free for a 15-yard shot inside the near post. This was Kresse's ninth collegiate goal and her third tally of the campaign.
In the 78th minute, Carleton earned a corner kick, and Dean pounded on Kresse's delivery into the box and directed a shot from the corner of the six-yard box through traffic and into the far side of the net. It was Dean's first goal of the season and the fourth of her career. She is the ninth different Knight to score this season.
Ezrz Kucur was credited with seven saves and her fourth clean sheet of the year.
