Six players score as Knights topple Royals

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – Six different players scored—three in each half—as the Carleton College women's soccer team rolled to a 6-1 victory over a Bethel University squad that had conceded only five goals over its first six games.

The half dozen goals by the Knights (5-1-0, 3-0-0 MIAC) represents their highest output since a 7-2 win over St. Olaf on Oct. 30, 2019.

Kathryn Kresse got the scoring barrage started less than two minutes into the match, finishing off a pass from Lauren Caldwell. It was Kresse's fourth goal of the season and her third tally in as many matches.

Bethel (3-2-2, 1-2-0 MIAC) answered in the 12th minute when Abby Swanda scored on a long free kick that snuck under the crossbar.

In the 31st minute, Ashlyn Haigh notched what proved to be the game winner, scoring her team-high fifth goal of the campaign. She blasted a 36-yard rocket into the upper corner of the net.

Less than eight minutes later, Loren Arzayus recorded her first goal of the year, directing a shot from the top of the box into the far side of the net off a feed from Saheli Patel.

After halftime, Casey MacVeagh got in on the fun by collecting her first goal off the year. In the 53rd minute, Patel collected a free kick up the left wing a slid a pass over to MacVeagh, who had been left unattended on the left side of the 18-yard box. This was MacVeagh's 15th career goal.

Anna Borkowski scored her first goal of the season in the 82nd minute, scoring from the edge of the 18-yard box. Thea Traw added her names to the scoresheet less than a minute later, finishing off a service from Arzayus.

Carleton was credited with a 22-8 edge in shots, including a 16-4 edge in attempts on goal.
