Knights get season underway with 9-0 win over Hamline

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College men's tennis team started its 2023-24 season with a 9-0 victory over Hamline University in a match played at the Pat Lamb Tennis Courts.

While returners Yuv Kataria, Cooper Kline, Jack Rivkin, and Aniketh Vipparla won in both singles and doubles, all three rookies on the roster notched victories as well.

First-year Richy Jing prevailed 8-2 alongside Rivkin at No. 2 doubles and added a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. Jasper Yang and Kataria won 8-5 at No. 3 doubles, and Jerome Yang blanked his opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.

"Playing in your first college match can be intimidating, but our trio of freshmen displayed the confidence of a group of squirrels at a freshly installed bird feeder," said Carleton head coach Stephan Zweifel.

Kataria started the year with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles, while Kline picked up a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles. Rivkin secured a 6-0, 6-0 win at the fourth slot, while Vipparla picked up a 6-2, 6-3 decision at No. 6 singles.

Vipparla and Kline won atop the doubles line by an 8-2 margin.
