NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The No. 2 seeded Carleton College men's tennis team dispatched No. 3 seed Macalester College, 5-0, in the semifinals of the MIAC Playoffs.
Ozzie Viswanathan (Sr./Lincolnshire, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) played a role in two of the Knights' five team points.
Carleton (18-3) fended off an early challenge in doubles and earned a 3-0 lead.
Tarm Rojanasoonthon (So./Bangkok, Thailand/Chulalongkorn) and
Tate Fuller (So./Seattle, Wash./Lakeside) claimed an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 spot, while Viswanathan and Leslie secured an 8-6 result at the second slot.
Yuv Kataria (Jr./Kolkata, India/Weil Academy & College Prep) and
Aniketh Vipparla (Jr./Cary, N.C./Green Hope) trailed 7-4 at No. 3 doubles but rallied to force the tiebreaker, which the Carleton duo won by a 7-3 tally.
Once play moved to singles, it became a race to see where the final two Carleton points would come from as team matches are only played to decision during the postseason.
At No. 4 singles, Viswanathan was the first to wrap up a result, posting a dominating 6-1, 6-0 triumph.
Cooper Kline (Fy./Los Angeles, Calif./The Buckley School) followed soon after with his 6-2, 6-2 victory at the sixth slot.
The other four matches were left unfinished, including No. 1 singles where Rojanasoonthon won the first set and No. 2 singles where Fuller led 5-1 in the second set at the second slot.
